Volunteering

Selection.

People interested in Volunteering with the Horowhenua Transport Trust are asked to fill in an application form.

They are contacted and advised that further contact will be made when there is an identified need for more volunteers. The Board member responsible for volunteers will then arrange for interviews with the applicant where the selection and induction process is explained. Police checks are carried out if the applicant wishes to continue.

Induction

A formal induction check list is followed to ensure all areas of the operation are covered and understood.

Training

Prospective volunteers are accompanied on scheduled trips with experienced operators who take them through the required driver/support roles. For drivers this may take 3 to 4 trips. Training in the operation of the chair lifts is undertaken by selected volunteers with experience of the safe operation of permanently installed wheel chai lifts

P class medicals are required annually for all drivers.

The trust pays the cost of this. All volunteers are also required to hold a First Aid Certificate and attend a biannuall refresher course

Meetings

Volunteer meetings are held 3 times a year to promote communication within the group.

Notes are attached to the run sheets highlighting any current issues.
